In full disclosure, I am the author's wife. Bob started writing this book as a way for us to talk about our beliefs. I grew up as a Southern Baptist Bible literalist, and Bob's spiritual path was very different. He studied under a Taoist Master from the Shaolin temple in China. Bob is a very spiritual person; he wanted me to understand how he thought, and I, of course, wanted him to be saved. So he started taking the text from his sacred writings and putting it into terms from the Bible, which I could understand. Eventually, he reimagined all 81 chapters of the Tao Te Ching. Through the process, he gained much understanding of my belief system and I, of his. Through the process, we grew more closely together. and now share our spiritual lives as well. As I mentioned, I am a dyed-in-the-wool Bible-loving Christian and I love this book.

For those of us who have evolved from a very conservative evangelical background to recognizing that other world religions, primarily those of the Eastern tradition have amazingly more similarities to our Western Christianity that we ever thought possible, this book is a gift. Bob Martin has done a masterful job of putting Eastern Wisdom literature beside our Western tradition in a way that laypeople can easily understand to the point of being not only inspirational but transformative.
